Role Purpose

The Head of Global Commodity Buying as part of the Procurement & Supply Chain function, is directly responsible for shaping, developing and implementing the supplier and commodity strategy for the function. Whilst there are Global Commodity Souring strategies in place there has been some progress in terms of the strategy definition with regards to supplier partnerships and prioritisation of target areas to be focussed on, this change programme is in the advanced phases and the post holder will play a significant role in both driving the strategy further, as well as driving the shape of the transformation.

A multi-faceted role, which requires the post holder to work collaboratively within the function, as well as with other key stakeholders in the business, especially the Company’s Engineering and Product Platform organisation support by Product Procurement Managers, this is a significant undertaking which will the post holder play a critical role in supporting the function to achieve it’s transformation programme, through overall continued long-term key supplier development, the supplier reduction program and implementing an outsourcing program for C parts.

As part of the organizational development of the Procurement and Supply Chain function the decision has been made to streamline and integrate the buyers at the regions and better connect with central global lead buying team, and hence, shape one high performing buying team adding value along the supply chain from product development involvement, bidding to on-time delivery in our projects as well as in the aftermarket.

Part of the responsibility are also team for Low Cost Country Souring in China and Eastern Europe which need to re-vamped and further developed.

Work based Experience

Demonstrable evidence of strategic sourcing within a complex, Procurement Organisation. Must have been responsible for shaping and transforming the Procurement scope.

Extent of transformation experience, will include having transformed a sourcing organisation, into one which has been able to optimise performance utilising digitalised methodology.

Transformation experience will have been gained internationally, in a complex matrix organisation, operating globally.

Is able to connect easily with key suppliers and manage difficult supplier relationships and drives supplier excellence programs.

Track record to mitigate conflicts between customer, own company and supplier and is able to mediate and to avoid legal escalations.

Must have experience of working with shared service teams or remote teams, with demonstrable capability in being able to connect teams working in multiple locations, using digital solutions.

Proven experience of successfully managing both the definition and implementation of significant change programmes, across multi-site, multi country organisations

Track record of working effectively with and bringing together multiple stakeholders to deliver complex projects.

Is able to evidence working with SAP systems and be able to demonstrate proficiency in usage.

Is an analytical and strategic thinker, able to build and create propositions to maximise performance within the value chain

High level influencing skills, well-honed emotional intelligence and an ability to network and build strong relationships at all levels across the business, collaborating effectively and acting as an ambassador.

Is able to communicate easily and effectively at all levels within an organisations, both verbally and using non verbal communications. Simplifies complexity in a way that people can easily grasp concepts

Develops comprehensive plans to deliver project requirements. Organises multiple activities to support the achievement of defined objectives, incorporating goals, milestones and procedures. Qualifications & Knowledge

Must be familiar with procurement and supply chain processes. Will know how supply chain works and be able to give detailed illustrations.

Must be familiar with latest technology trends used in digitalising Procurement & Supply Chain functions, giving examples of the most beneficial, including impact versus cost

Most be able to describe the key phases of managing an effective change programme

Fluency in English is essential

An educational background to Degree or Masters level in engineering would be advantageous

Knowledge of the key challenges and opportunities within the European rail industry.
