Based at our heritage engineering site in Derby, we are currently looking to recruit an experienced Planning Manager (m/f).

Your Role:

The Planning Manager establishes and updates the Detailed Project Schedule (DPS) in accordance with the DPS procedure, including leading the harmonization and integration of sub-schedules from all parties (functions, subdivisions) involved in the project. The Planning Manager needs to challenge all inputs from all parties. The Planning Manager regularly tracks and reports progress against the baseline schedule and continuously monitors risks and opportunities as well as proactively develops scenarios, mitigation or back-up plans required. The Planning Manager produces schedule-related KPI’s as required by the project. The Planning Manager is an important member of the Change Control Board.

He/She supports Project Manager in discussions related to delays and/or improvements of the schedule.
He/She supports Project Manager or Supply Manager representatives communicating detailed schedule objectives or issues to suppliers or partners.

When in lead in consortium, he/she maintains direct contact with peers in partner companies and manages schedule development and follow-up as a whole within the consortium

When not in lead, he/she maintains direct contact with peers in partner companies on detailed schedule development and reporting; cooperating proactively with lead planner and peers in partner companies

Manage the Planning team and ensure all deliverables are met.

Support, improve and implement a new way of working/vision inside the team, through continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities and Challenges:

Functional duties to the Project Core Team

- Responsible for establishing and updating the DPS based on common objectives within the project

- Responsible for monitoring and reporting on schedule progress and deviations within all parties involved in the project

- Responsible for communicating the DPS, and changes thereto, to all parties involved in the project

- Responsible for regularly monitoring critical path(s) of the schedule to identify risks and opportunities and develop mitigation or recovery plans

- The role is mandated to make any internal contacts, and in a consortium also external contacts, needed to perform the duties

Leadership duties within the Project Core Team

- Lead meetings related to DPS topics

- Manage, with the support of all Project Core Team members, the effective communication to all parties of the DPS and updates thereto

- Ensure that schedule implications of changes dealt with the Change Control Board are made visible and clear prior to decisions to being presented to the Change Control Board

Specific responsibilities to other Project Core Team roles

- Ensure that the Project Controller is regularly updated with any and all progress or delays to the DPS to secure that implications to the EAC are monitored

- Ensure that the Risk & Opportunity Manager is regularly updated with possible threats or opportunity derived from present or future deviations to the DPS.


- Strong planning experience on projects of large scale & proven track record (e.g. PMP)

- Working experience either in Engineering, Project Management, Operations, Procurement, Bids, Sales, or Finance

- Good knowledge of relevant software – P6

- Prince 2 or equivalent certification is an advantage
Is recognized as an expert in own discipline within the business.

- Very strong communication skills

- Good problem solving focus and resilience

- Experience with people management is a plus; however, this role could also be a good fit for an expert project planner, looking to grow in a new position
