We are currently looking to recruit a Design for Asset Management Engineer (m/f) for our site in Derby, UK


As part of the Maintenance Development team, the Design for Asset Management Engineer will be responsible for project execution in two key areas of train maintenance development:

• Design for Supportability: he/she will form part of the team that develops the maintenance strategy for new vehicles at concept / bid phase, and then during detail design and build stage. This will include validating the design of key systems to ensure they meet the maintainability, remote system monitoring and labour - material cost requirements of the agreed maintenance strategy while ensuring the relevant HSE / legal requirements are observed.

• Maintenance Optimization: the post holder will execute Maintenance Optimization projects on new trains and those in service to ensure that Life Cost Cycling are equitably balanced between, cost, down time and reliability, whilst ensuring that product and operational safety is never compromised.

Your Tasks

- Working with procurement, suppliers and engineering during supplier selection, design reviews and joint design development to deliver all maintenance requirements, proposing novel maintenance solutions and resolving maintainability issues to ensure the train is delivered at the lowest overall life cycle cost;

- Identifying and raising maintenance requirements to ensure past reliability and maintainability issues, contractual maintenance targets and best practice maintenance principles are embedded into train and platform designs;

- Validation and optimization of vehicle maintenance manuals and maintenance schedule with suppliers, engineering and technical authors;

- Sharing of best practice development during design for maintenance projects both within fleet projects in the UK and across Design for Maintenance teams globally.


- Engineering Degree (electrical/mechanical preferred);
- Previous relevant experience in fleet maintenance or asset management;
- Previous experience in rail or an equivalent sector (ex: aerospace, trucking industry) is a requirement of the role;
- In depth knowledge of Life Cycle Costing calculation techniques;
- Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) philosophy;
- Maintenance, Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) and carrying out engineering risk assessments;
- Proficient user of Microsoft Excel and Word;
- Team player;
- Ability to see the big picture;
- Ability to effectively communicate and influence on technical issues across disciplines, cultures, work locations, and hierarchical level.
