We are currently looking to recruit an Head of Train Control Applications UK (m/f), based at our engineering site in Derby

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Total Train Control function covers a range of rolling-stock engineering disciplines, including the integration of TCMS (Train Control & Management System), real-time embedded software development, safety-critical systems, conventional train control, on-board signaling, CCTV and Passenger Information Systems.

YOUR TASKS

- Ensure that committed Total Train Control deliverables to the Project are achieved within time, quality and budget and in line with legislation and safety
- Act across multiple UK projects to manage risks and opportunities, and coordinate successful delivery of contractual obligations to the customer
- Deliver the targeted margin to Bombardier through successful delivery against the agreed budget, re-use targets, quality and project schedule
- Drive early achievement of customer design review acceptance, detailed design review acceptance, final customer acceptance and reliability growth targets through pro-active and effective engagement with all stakeholders, including both upstream and downstream engineering and commissioning functions
- Be pro-active in ensuring that existing and upcoming projects in the UK are adequately resourced with personnel of the required competence
- Be pro-active in managing the delivery of inputs from other engineering partners in order to ensure successful project outcomes
- Ensure all team members have sufficient reporting governance and that all risks and opportunities are properly identified, addressed and mitigated
- Establish and maintain interfaces with other Engineering departments & with relevant functions (Project Management, Procurement, Operations, Sales, Bids)
- Management and development of relevant skills within TTC team (workforce planning, performance management, career development, succession planning and recruitment)
- Alignment of System Engineering processes/tools/behaviors related to TTC with company standards

Qualifications

- Technical Degree
- Software or electrical background in the rail, aerospace, defence, industrial automation or software house (ideally control software)
- Leadership experience in a systems/project management position
- Proven leadership experience and performance (i.e. PMP, 360° feedback) at a managerial level
- Having worked on several projects requiring development and integration of embedded software in a distributed network and/or integration of bespoke systems from multiple vendors
- Technical expertise of significant importance balanced with project and people management skills
- Project Management qualification desirable (i.e. Agile approach)
- Knowledge of safety-critical development could be a plus
