We are currently looking to recruit a Plant Engineer (m/f) based in Derby, United Kingdom.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Plant Engineer is responsible for supervising repair, operation, maintenance and directed Capex new works of all site mechanical services, lifting equipment, cranes, hoists, platforms, rail and traverse tracks, door systems, footpaths, roadways and hard standings in accordance with legal requirements, health and safety legislation and company policies.

The incumbent will assist with implementing plans for site to support the long-term business plan and continue the drive towards a world-class production facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Reporting to the Senior Plant Engineering Manager the purpose of this role is to supervise all activities related to the site mechanical plant in order to allow the site to reach high standards of safety, productivity, efficiency, quality and optimised cost;
- The engineer will be competent to supervise a small in house maintenance team and over 30 mechanical services contracts. The contracts are to be supervised in accordance with all current legislation, H&S requirements and company policy (to include pre-start meetings, day to day control of contractors and emergency callouts as required);
- The engineer is to supervise repair, operation, maintenance and directed Capex new works including meeting with and controlling contractors, meeting with and briefing suppliers on requirements, auditing major facility contracts, selection of contractors and production of risk assessments with the aim of delivering safety and performance in line with business requirements;
- The engineer will ensure compliance related to all external regulatory requirements and industry best practices through compliance with and applying legal requirements, health and safety legislation and company policies, complying with and applying current CDM regulations, completing risk assessments and proposing Method Statements, issuing permits to work for risk activities in accordance with the site’s health & safety procedures and ensuring company compliance with LOLER regulations for all lifting appliances;
- Will contribute to overtime and on call duties as agreed and emergency callout duties as required and any further duties as directed to assist others in Plant Team.

Qualifications

Experience & Functional Knowledge:

- Relevant experience in a similar role;
- Good understanding of manufacturing engineering, TPM , applicable legislation including HSE, CDM and LOLER;
- He/She should be conversant with contracting procedures, have financial and commercial awareness and have good computer skills, be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite and should be knowledgeable about compliance implications that may impact the organisation;
- Good experience in Construction/Engineering Management Projects, Plant Engineering, and Capital Schemes;

Qualifications:

- Post Graduate in a relevant role;
- Contract Law Experience / Commercial Experience;
- Health and Safety qualification NEBOSH – IOSH, Managing Safely;
- Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma tools including knowledge of TPM, Project Management and Kaizen;

Knowledge of the Business:

- Sound understanding of Industrial standards within plant and industrial engineering;
- Possess a good working knowledge and ensure compliance related to all external regulatory requirements and industry best practices;

Leadership – Management or Technical

- Supervisory responsibilities for allocated direct labour and shows a clarity of purpose, communication and decision making ensuring efficient performance;
- Extensive experience of managing multiple work stream packages in a fast paced environment of competing needs;

- Analytical thought needed to resolve issues in a variety of complex situations;
- Excellent problem solving skills required, together with the ability to work with others within the team to secure the best possible solution;

- Operational responsibility to ensure mechanical services initiatives are aligned with the current and future needs of the business;

- Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills;
- Good communication skills to work with other team members, contractors and site personnel at all levels.
