We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Physical Integration Mechanical Designer (m/f), based at our engineering site in Derby

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The main role of the Senior Physical Integration Mechanical Designer is to set up basic concepts based on the bid data and input from the Engineering team and other departments, from Suppliers and from the Client. In addition, s/he is responsible for technical follow-up of the basic concepts and for the validation of the work executed by the designers.

Your tasks

- Develop the basic concepts, having those validated by a Physical Integration Lead Engineer and hand over to the designer to execute the detail design.
- Validation of the 3D-models drawn up by the designer towards concept and validation of the 2D-drawings made by the designer inclusive the off shore work.
- Technically adjust the basic concept if necessary starting from the information received from the Designer and/or Team Leader
- Prepare Design Reviews (internal + external):

- Explanation the concept
- Verification of the concept consistency against the information that is offered
- Follow up open Design Review items
- Enter new ideas in order to meet the requirements of ‘design to cost’ and ‘design for manufacturing’ concepts
- Go through all information of Bids Engineering and customer specifications related to his/her part of the work
- Retrieve the required information from Suppliers and from the System Engineering team

Qualifications

- Ideally Bachelor Degree in Mechanical engineering, minimum HNC level qualification and having completed an approved (mechanical) apprenticeship
- Strong mechanical design experience in the rail (rolling stock) or aerospace industry
- Active user of CATIA V5 or other mechanical CAD design tools (i.e. NX)
- Knowledge of a PLM/PDM tool
- Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken
- Ability to work in a team
- Good problem solving skills
