We are currently looking to recruit a Software Support Engineer (m/f) for our ORBITA software solution, based at our engineering site in Derby

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

New railway vehicle designs incorporate sophisticated intelligent systems to deliver the expectations of today’s passengers. To maximise the benefits of these systems, advanced remote technology can be deployed to enable the extended on board functions. The ORBITA Wayside Solution is a standard suite of products developed by Bombardier Transportation to support the operation and maintenance of railway vehicles by providing remote access with advanced diagnostic and visualisation capabilities.

This suite of products is developed using a number of technologies including Angular and .NET Frameworks together with other web technologies and is supported by Microsoft SQL server databases. It runs on infrastructure hosted in a number of different geographic locations and is supported by a geographically remote support team.

The ORBITA Software Support Engineer is part of that dedicated team responsible for the operational support of this ORBITA Wayside Solution. This team ensure that the ORBITA Wayside Solution meets the availability targets specified by the projects and customers using the solution. Initially the systems requiring support will be part of the ORBIFLO suite of applications moving to the latest ORBITA Wayside Solution as these new systems move into the Operations area of responsibility.

Your Tasks

- Work with our hosting providers to ensure maximum availability of the ORBITA Wayside Solution, providing 2nd level support
- Responsible for developing and maintaining processes and procedures to ensure the successful delivery of the ORBITA Wayside Solution, in line with all Service and Operational level agreement
- Initially to provide Database Administrator (DBA) support for the ORBIFLO Maintenance component, migrating to provide equivalent support for the ORBITA Wayside Solution
- Responsible for the management of Operational training to customers running installations of the ORBITA Wayside Solution on their own sites
- Provide a single point of contact in all matters relating to the co-ordination of the ORBITA Wayside Solution support team currently based in Derby and Hyderabad
- Holding regular review meetings with the team

Qualifications

- Computer Science degree or equivalent experience
- ITIL Certification is highly desirable, but not an absolute prerequisite
- Relevant experience in an IT support role
- DBA experience working with Microsoft SQL
- Knowledge of new non SQL technologies would be highly desirable
- Experience of working in a multicultural and multi-site teams is an advantage
- Experience of creating procedures and processes in line with ITIL philosophies
- Understanding of IT infrastructure
- Computing skills – Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Visio
- Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken
