We are currently looking to recruit a UK Director Public Relations & Public Affairs (m/f), based either in London or in Derby, the UK.


As the UK Public Relations & Public Affairs (PRPA) Director, you will be the primary spokesperson and first point of contact for Group Communications and Public Affairs in the UK. You will coordinate and align the external communications activities for Bombardier Transportation across the entire UK-based business .

This role is key to developing and sustaining the brand, image and reputation of Bombardier Transportation as the global leader in rail technology, to support business objectives and bid capture in these markets.

Therfore, you will ensure cross-division, cross regional coordination in public relations, media and stakeholder management and leadership communication for the Group. You will be the first point of contact for other PRPAs, the country head, as well as the heads of sales and bids operating in the country on all Group communication matters.


1. Communication / Public Affairs planning and awareness building

- You will work with Regions, PRPAs, Bids and Sales Teams to identify content and opportunities to promote BT products and technologies through local media, relations with government, as well as national media where applicable.
- You will be responsible for developing and implementing a coordinated media relations and content placement strategy in mainstream and social media to support BT Group’s reputation and brand building campaigns in key markets, aligned with the Regions’ bid capture, Project milestone achievements, product launch and public affairs plans.
- You will oversee the content, quality and consistency of messages for all press releases, speeches, governmental letters and company information issued in these markets.
- Developping and nurturing local media, government and key stakeholder relationships that will serve to advance the business in the UK, reputation and image objectives is also one of your task; you will proactively seek to position the company positively with all its stakeholders.

2. Media Creation / media management

- You will identify and create the right tools and media to expedite the dissemination of BT critical information to management, the front line sales teams, PRPA, Marketing Communications and Country Heads to keep them abreast of company positions, issues and other intelligence in these markets.

3. Executive Communication

- You will develop the right combination of processes, opportunities and interactions to enhance executive leadership communication and BT thought-leadership in the market.

4. Service/Consulting

- You will respond to requests from Executives for assistance in key / core message development, communications planning, speeches and media training.

5. Crisis Communications / damage limitation

- You will have the prime responsibility for developing / overseeing an appropriate crisis process and plan and for managing media and stakeholder relations and comment in situations with the potential for catastrophic or damaging impact on the BT reputation and brand.


- You have a strong experience and a successful background in active Public affairs or Communications management for multinational companies or the rail sector.
- You are an expert in writing and editing copies for speeches, press releases and online articles and have a thorough understanding of modern professional communication, and that enables you to influence opinion and awareness.
- You possess good project and time management skills and overall strong organizational abilities
- You are determined and creative, with a mind set on solving problems and managing crisis situations.
- You have a strong work ethic and are proficient in English.
- You are open to travelling both across the UK and internationally, if required.
