We are currently looking to recruit a Software Variability Management LEAD EXPERT (M/F) for Mannheim, Germany.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Variability Management (VM) is the discipline of managing product complexity by focusing on multi-product variability and commonality [BS ISO/IEC 26550:2013]

The Software Variability Management LEAD EXPERT (M/F) provides technical leadership to set up the Product Line Engineering (PLE) process and Variability Management method, tool and training across Bombardier Transportation, and will drive implementation of PLE and VM in scope of Train Control and Management System (TCMS) engineering globally.

The Software Variability Management LEAD EXPERT (M/F) manages training and coaching for the domain topic including application support in development projects.

The Software Variability Management LEAD EXPERT (M/F) defines the PLE governance structure.

YOUR TASKS

1. Strategy, planning and leading: The Software Variability Management LEAD EXPERT (M/F) provides technical leadership, set targets, defines strategy and plans the activities to introduce the PLE & VM method. This includes a temporary solution in 2016 until the final approach can be supported by a dedicated tool chain. The lead expert defines interfaces and fosters collaboration between TCMS and Vehicle including setting-up workshops, regular meetings and pilot projects for PLE & VM.

2. Process & Methods: The Software Variability Management LEAD EXPERT (M/F) supervises the creation of the PLE process, PLE & VM management and expert guideline as well as the validation of methodology in pilot projects.

3. Tool chain: The Software Variability Management LEAD EXPERT (M/F) supervises the development and maintenance of the variability modelling profile in SysML. The PLE & VM Lead Expert manages, in close cooperation with IS, the selection, acquisition and implementation of a variability management tool for BT. He/she leads the expert domain aspect for variability management with respect to the integrated BT Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tool chain.

4. Training, Coaching, Application: The Software Variability Management LEAD EXPERT (M/F) supervises the creation of training material, the organisation of trainings for managers and domain experts as well as the support of PLE application in development projects.

5. Organisation & Governance: The Software Variability Management LEAD EXPERT (M/F) defines the PLE governance structure and coordinates “variability champions” in regions and core functions as well as cross-functional teams for different asset domains (e.g. Requirements Engineering, Software Architecture and Test).

Qualifications

• Master degree in Engineering and / or Business Administration / Innovation Management
• In-depth understanding on Product Line Engineering and Variability Management (based on BS ISO/IEC 26550:2013) methods and tools, and how they contribute to achieving business objectives.
• Several years of professional experience in an industrial environment with Product Line Engineering and Variability Management, ideally within the industry sector comparable with railway technology.
• Sound experience in working in a complex international environment.
• In-depth understanding of Platform Management
• Very good understanding of respective product and market segments
• In-depth abilities in conceptual and lateral thinking
• Fluent in English and intermediate in German
