We are offering a Master Thesis Project for 2 students:
High Speed Communication over LVDS At Rail Control Solution Division in Stockholm

Rail Control Solutions (RCS) is a world leader in developing, engineering and installing rail control and signalling safety systems, products and services. RCS enables the safe and efficient operation of rail networks and trains.


The objectives of this thesis are:
• Analyse the maximum bandwidth of the current infrastructure by modelling and simulation using Signal Integrity analysis techniques.
• Develop an OSI layer 2 scheme which utilizes the maximum bandwidth allowed from the current infrastructure;
• Introduce Error Correction / Error Detection techniques in order to reduce retransmissions;
• Integrate with the present OSI layer 3 communication protocol;
• Stress-test and reliably analyse its behaviour within the regular utilization of the system;
• Analyse effects and impact on EMC on the overall system.

Purpose of the project

We are offering this thesis project to a final year Master’s student for a period of 5 months (20 weeks), summing up to 30 credits.
The objective with this thesis is to create an ad-hoc high-speed communication link over an existing hardware rack infrastructure using standard LVDS transceivers without equalization. A current communication scheme is present.


• Master students in Electronic / Electrical / Telecommunication Engineering, also civil engineering students with background in high-speed digital communications;
• VHDL programming;
• Understanding of high-speed design and signal-integrity;
• Knowledge of OSI layer 1/2/3 protocols and schemes;
• Phase Locked-Loops (PLLs) and SERDES is a big advantage;
• English at an advanced level is mandatory;
• Driven and self-propelled ;
• Results oriented person .
