We are looking for an Environmental Specialist/Sheet Metal Worker for our Baltimore, Maryland facility.

In your role as an Environmental Specialist/Sheet Metal Worker, you will:

Perform routine, environmental regulatory inspections and other environmental compliance tasks in compliance with the Maryland Department of Environment (MDE) standards. Inspect, service and make necessary repairs to passenger coaches and locomotives within OEM/FRA/DOT and Bombardier Standards.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

- Perform routine, environmental regulatory inspections and other environmental compliance tasks. The incumbent with interact with managers and employees in other departments to maintain compliance with environmental regulations and best management practices and will be responsible for operation of the wastewater treatment facility and wastewater discharge monitoring and compliance.

- Build, erect, assemble, install, dismantle, and maintain parts made of copper, brass, tin, zinc, white/black metal of 10 gauge and lighter, including brazing, soldering, tinning and leading.

- Bend, fit, cut, thread, braze, connect and disconnect air, water, gas, oil and steam pipes.

- Operate pipe threading machines.

- Oxy-propane and arc welding.

- Perform equipment work order management using asset management database.

- Operate locomotive, passenger coaches and prime mover as part of team to move rail equipment.

- Additional duties as assigned in accordance with union agreement and incidental work rule provisions.

Training

Training will be provided in Baltimore, Maryland upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

- High School diploma/GED

- 18 years of age or older

- Valid Driver's License

- Valid Maryland Industrial Treatment License

- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints

- Proficient in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and/or Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW)

- Proficient in oxy-propane torch

Preferred Qualifications

- 3 years of sheet metal, fabrication, and/or pipefitting experience

Basic Competencies

- Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications--both general and technical)

- Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)

- Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)

- Mechanical aptitude

- Must be able to obtain Qualified Maintenance Person (QMP) designation and qualification

- Need to meet regulatory medical qualifications to qualify for Maintenance Facility Engineer and Maintenance Facility Conductor

- Driving record needs to be absent any moving convictions for alcohol or substance abuse within the previous 36 months

- Must have basic proficiency with Windows software and Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e., Outlook)

Physical Requirements

- Heavy work, lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis

- Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on a regular basis

- Push/pull/grip/carry on a regular basis

- Walking long distances over uneven terrain

- Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity

- Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis

Employment Conditions

- Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries

- Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots and safety glasses

- Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work

- Complete annual training and pass safety rules examination

- Subject to random testing for drugs and/or alcohol per certifications

- Must pass all required assessments

- Required to pass a post-offer medical examination, including drug and alcohol testing

- This position will be governed by a collective bargaining agreement, membership is required

- Active employees must complete one year in current position or craft before applying for positions
