Global Trade Compliance Officer

Job purpose

The Global Trade Compliance Officer reports to the Chief Compliance & Security Officer and is responsible for the development and administration of policies and processes to ensure that BT’s worldwide business is carried out in compliance with all applicable export and import regulations. The incumbent will lead the Trade Compliance Officers of the Regions and Functions (dotted reporting lines) and work closely with a variety of internal groups and functions within Bombardier Transportation (such as Sales, Procurement, Engineering, Contracts & Legal Affairs, and others)

Key duties/responsibilities:

• Provide leadership and direction in trade regulations, compliance, and risk assessment:

- Build and foster a strong program of training, education and cooperation throughout the Regions and Business Units with regard to trade compliance.
- Develop long-term strategies to facilitate business in accordance with a constantly evolving trade and regulatory landscape; provide timely risk assessments.

• Lead the continuous improvement process in trade compliance and the implementation of export compliance best practices.
• Identify trade issues, develop solutions and provide guidance to management on resolving issues to support business objectives while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations and internal policies. Research, interpret, and apply complex U.S. and non-U.S. government export/import laws and regulations.
• Lead and supervise the Trade Compliance Officers of the Regions and Functions (e.g. Procurement, Engineering, Sales) and establish an internal and external network.
• Work with internal and external partners to conduct global trade compliance assessments on a routine basis to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; conducts internal audits and regulatory trade compliance audits.

Qualifications

- Master's degree in a relevant field (legal background preferred).
- Extensive experience in Trade Compliance (Export Control, Import Control, Sanctions and Embargoes), preferably in a multinational, complex environment. High level of competency in export regulations.
- Experience with ITAR and EAR; experience conducting investigations, audits, and assessments and navigating the relationships between various government agencies responsible for export control laws and regulations.
- Strong management and leadership skills. Ability to provide operational leadership and guidance on strategy development and implementation, to highly specialised cross-functional teams.
- Ability to build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Strong change management skills and experience. High degree of flexibility and adaptability.
- Ability to work independently and with team members, exercise critical, creative and self-sufficient thinking. Draw strength from teamwork / collaboration irrespective of geographical, organizational, and cultural boundaries.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Fluent English skills.

Job location: flexible, with a preference for US or Germany, but not limited to these.
