About the role:

As Operability Engineer you will be joining a team of highly skilled professionals which are developing Vehicle Operability Concepts within the product families according to the Vehicle Operability Breakdown Structure (VOBS). Your role will be mainly related to defining and to specifying usability, operability, diagnostic, maintainability and handling of our products (rolling stock) according to the requirements from operation, infrastructure and maintenance.

The Operability Concept analysis high level scenario & tasks and transitions between them, in respect to the train in its daily use. It shall be done from the perspective of the operator according DITLOTT (Day in the life of the train). Actors according DITLOTT are driver, train staff, maintainer and passenger.

Key Responsibilities and Challenges:

• Create Operability concept and derive requirements towards functional, mechanical and electrical architecture to respect operability requirements regarding infrastructure, operation and maintenance.

• Consolidate customer requirements and legal requirements regarding operation, infrastructure and maintenance.

• Identify and list the gaps between Platform solutions and customer required product. Understand the non-explicit need behind the explicit requirement. Support Sales by promoting BT standard solution (Building Block).

• Define operational scenarios and operability features based on platform definition according to VOBS (Vehicle Operability Breakdown Structure).

• Deliver the Operability concept document as part of Bid deliverables. Derive requirements towards Performance, functional, mechanical and electrical architectures, respecting operability requirement related to infrastructure, operation and maintenance.

• Plan and establish Vehicle Operability workshops. (DITLOTT).

• Working with global engineering to identify standards across all platforms and product families.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or master’s degree in engineering (preferably Mechanical, Electrical or Software), or, relevant training and experience.

• Strong experience and/ or sound understanding of defining, structuring and developing a rolling stock concept and design.

• Experience of converting the customer's explicit and implicit technical and functional requirements into technical/ functional specifications to be used by design teams.

• Experience and hands on delivery of the design, analysis, development, testing and delivery of engineering solutions that solve complex requirements, (preferably, but not mandatory - in the railway sector).

• Experience of developing and applying a range of system engineering process and tools e.g. DOORS requirements management database.

• Experience of working across many different disciplines, with indirect reports to deliver cost effective technical solutions to schedule and budget.

• Ability to easily understand the interactions between the train and its environment (infrastructure, signalling, maintenance, operation) and the impact they have on its design.

• Excellent leadership skills.

• Previous experience in project management would be highly appreciated.

• Working on rolling stock bids deliverable could represent an advantage.

• Team player attitude, ability to make decisions and solve problems, as well planning, organizing and prioritizing your work will be highly appreciated.
