Bombardier’s facility at Crewe is the company’s Centre of Excellence for Component Repair and Overhaul (CRO) services in the UK. The facility has achieved near perfect execution in terms of cost, quality and delivery for the past years. The Crewe facility focuses its services on overhauls of wheelsets, bogies, AC and DC motors, as well as rewinds of DC motors. Larger contracts will also see overhaul work for items such as pantographs, compressors and other ancillary components, while engaging in continuous improvement initiatives.

We are currently looking for a Lead Product Safety Engineer (m/f) for our site in Crewe, United Kingdom.


The Lead Product Safety Engineer will manage and control all Product Engineering related activities at Crewe, including assurance of product safety. He/she will be the key engineering interface with customer, central engineering and relevant Bombardier support functions


- Provides leadership and direction to the Engineers within the team, providing technical expertise and project management support

- Support projects, new product introduction through APQP process, customer technical queries, warranty and failure investigations, cost down initiatives, alternative supply sources, whilst ensuring engineering integrity of supplied finished products is maintained

- Lead Engineering support in pursuance of bids and new sale opportunities for Crewe site

- Interfaces with central engineering, methods, quality, purchasing, manufacturing, and outside suppliers as needed.

- Understands application of supplied products, support material cost optimisation and ensure required integrity / safety levels are maintained

- Provide cost and schedule estimates on complicated engineering programs


- Bachelor Degree in Engineering with a chartered status is essential;

- Strong experience in a similar role;

- Fleet Engineering experience is essential;

- Experience and hands on delivery of the design, analysis, development, testing and delivery of engineering solutions that solve complex requirements;

- Mechanical/Production Engineering experience;

- Understanding of requirements of railway industry safety case management;

- System Integration experience desirable, System Architectural understanding desirable;

- Be able to demonstrate the ability to use this technical knowledge in the support of other departments (Methods, production, procurement, projects) and the development of engineering personnel;

- Experience of developing and applying a range of mechanical engineering process and tools;

- Experience of working across many different disciplines, with indirect reports to delivery complaint cost effective solutions technical solutions to schedule and budget;

- Experience of converting the customer's explicit and implicit technical and functional requirements into technical/ functional specifications;

- Very good communication and stakeholder management skills, ability to negotiate and influence others;

- Results driven individual with good problem solving skills.
