About the role

Responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of internal and external legal entity reporting and tax compliance & governance for all Transportation division companies in the UK. A very strong understanding of finance processes and systems will be necessary as this role will be required not only to ensure the deliverables of the total A&R function but to understand performance requirements, identify service shortcomings and suggest process performance improvements. A major aspect of this role will be to understand and address expectations of key stakeholders within the business and provide support to the Head of Accounting & Reporting UK to manage all relationships between the local Finance community and the Group, Corporate & Finance Shared Services Centre (SSC) communities.

Both confident and a strong communicator, this role will require a strong Finance experience and a total overview of Legal Entity finances to help ensure the country A&R function achieves its deliverables in a timely and consistent manner.

Your Tasks:

Financials & Compliance

• Delegate to the Head of Accounting and help manage the deliverables of the UK A&R team ( 3 heads);

• Provide accurate & timely internal and external reporting.

• Indirect tax advice and support on projects

• Provide ongoing tax support to the business and be responsible for the training / reviews of various tax related returns to include VAT returns and tax computations.

• Provide accurate & timely external reporting:

- Statutory Accounts under UKGAAP: support the HoA with co-ordination of UK external audit; statutory account preparation and submission

• Manage & review reporting requirements and correspondence to/with HMRC:

- Manage & review tax initiatives and compliance projects

- Co-ordinate CT computations and QIPs

- Monthly & Quarterly VAT returns (UK Groups, South Africa, Saudi Arabia and other branches where appropriate)

- Statutory submissions including Intrastat, EC Sales, CIS, APAs, PSA, STBV, SAO etc

- HMRC liaison

- Co-ordination of the HMRC Business Risk Review

• ONS submissions

Stakeholder Management

• Ensure on time delivery of information to the various stakeholders within your area of responsibility;

• Maintain customer focus whilst confidently challenging the stakeholder on areas of conflict

• Monitor the Internal and External Auditor relationships

• Regularly review Stakeholder feedback/input, providing guidance where required and resolution of issues where necessary.

Process Execution & Improvement

• Perform root cause analyses for any performance/process issues and suggest possible solutions for Standardisation across the Finance function;

• Ensure standard Global processes are consistently and effectively applied within the entity in all areas of activity;

• Achieve efficiency gains through simplifying and standardising processes and optimising the use of the systems and tools available.


• Minimum 10 years in financial accounting & reporting or similar area;

• Experience with indirect and direct taxation;

• Qualified Accountant with at least 5 years PQE ;

• Intermediate to expert experience with ERP System Accounting, in particular SAP;

• In depth understand of finance processes and interactions with systems;

• Highly PC Literate - MS Office suite, intermediate/expert level;

• Strong compliance experience;

• Experience with external auditors;

• Experience with direct and indirect taxation;

• Strong financial accounting experience and knowledge of IFRS/UKGAAP.
