at a career-defining role based in Derby.

Take the lead commercial role on complex maintenance projects and Bids for the Region UK, providing leadership, advice, guidance and support in Commercial Management

Role Dimensions:

• Projects Values up to €20M - 1.5B each

• Project Numbers – approximately 4 separate SER projects or 1 major project

• Project duration – ranging from 1 year to 30 years

Your responsibilities will include:

Key responsibilities

1. Acting as the Wingman to the Project Manager; leading the delivery of a professional commercial and contractual management service at all stages of the project execution lifecycle including being part of the approval process for financial commitment by the Project;

- Management of commercial and contractual relationships with customers, partners, and suppliers, including conducting negotiations, issue/problem resolution;

- Implementation of Contract and commercial management tools and procedures (including Obligation Mgmt.), Documentation and Change Management as well as Contract Awareness) to project core teams, so that commercial control is maintained throughout the projects’ lifetime;

- Leadership in the provision of commercial and contractual direction, evaluation of Variation

Orders and associated contract amendments;

- Management of the Risks and Opportunities Process and Database in conjunction with Operations

2. Leading return of knowledge and representing commercial contract interest’s into future Bids

3. Participation in Commercial Contract Tools Development with other areas of BT

4. Training, mentoring and influencing other members of the Project Core Team in Commercial Contract matters,

5. Positively lead compliance with BT’s directives, guidelines, procedures and policies as regards commercial practice in Project Execution.


- Holding a degree as Quantity Surveyor (QS) in either Engineering, Law or Business or a combination of these. Professional or Masters qualification in a relevant topic.

- A high level of commercial and business awareness together with hands-on longterm experience in contract and commercial management including diligent document control, reporting, drafting and preparation of claims and/or variations;

- Practical experience of developing business proposals with the focus on developing attractive and compelling commercial agreements;

- Ability to build and maintain long-term customer and other stakeholder relationships

- Extensive experience to successfully plan and conduct commercial negotiations with customers,partners and suppliers, at both project and senior levels;

- Sound understanding of contract law, business accounts, accounting practices, etc.

- Experience of commercial contract management with clients in an engineering and/or technical services business.

- Ability to drive risk & opportunity process and to deploy with success solutions which improve Project performance

- Ability to identify the core issues and propose solutions, make decisions quickly and track on-going Action Plan status
