Join us as a Senior Catering and Sanitary System Engineer and you’ll be looking at a career-defining role based in Derby.

As a Systems Engineer you will be responsible for the mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and functional integration of product associated with the Catering and Sanitary systems scope into the vehicle. He/she assures the toilet system performs to specification, as well as ensuring that the reliability, maintenance and safety requirements of the system are in line with the customer requirements.

The key responsibilities and challenges for the role cover four main areas of activity:

Product strategy, Bid and Start-up with the following responsibilities:

- Write Technical requirement documents and functional analyses

- Define system concept and write technical descriptions

- Write contractual technical documents (Clause-by-clause)

- Estimate technical risks and define mitigation plans

- Evaluate technical offers from and select suppliers

Design, with the following responsibilities:

- Develop system concepts, update of Technical requirement documents and functional analyses.

- Define, manage and follow-up all system interfaces

- Prepare and lead design reviews with the supplier, with other departments and with the customer

- Follow-up of system design and development with the supplier

- Participate in the creation of FMECA’s

- Follow-up engineering planning and anticipate potential delays / roadblocks

- Follow-up Open item list actions

- Review of supplier deliverables / documents (CDRL)

Execution, with the following responsibilities:

- Prepare and follow-up of the System Test Program Plan

- Verify the test procedures at system level made by the supplier

- Attend type tests at system level with the supplier

- Support vehicle validation type tests at car and train level

- Analyse problems, creation and implementation of corrective actions (re-design) if the test results are not compliant with the requirements

- Support the FAI (First article inspection) and PMR (Pre-manufacturing review)

- Support and verify Maintenance and Operating Manuals

- Training of people from the testing division, PI, customer

Field support, with the following responsibilities:

- Analyse faults and problems (functional, safety, reliability)
- Create and implement corrective actions and validate the solutions

- Update the system documentation (calculations, FMECA, functional analyses…)


- Masters or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Electromechanical Engineering is essential.

- Specialized knowledge: integration/installations, pneumatics, fluids, heat transfer, material science, electrics / electronics.

- Rail experience desirable.

- Minimum 3 years of experience in systems engineering, ideally catering and/or sanitary installations but also physical integration engineering.

- System Integration experience essential, System Architectural understanding essential.

- Experience and hands on delivery of the design, analysis, development, testing and delivery of engineering solutions that solve complex requirements.

- Ability to use this technical knowledge in the support of other departments (engineering, production, procurement, projects) and the development of less experienced engineering personnel.

- Leadership skills represent an advantage.

- Fluent English language skill is essential.

- Good knowledge of MS Office tools (Word, Excel etc.).
