We are currently looking to recruit a Software Test Lead Engineer for our site in Derby, UK


The RoQ organisation in Derby specialises in the design of bogies, bodyshell, TCMS, traction and braking systems, underframe equipment structural approval, service support, warranty support and electrical equipment.

The Software Test Lead Engineer role will carry out testing to ascertain its behavior and performance compared to the corresponding requirements specification. The tester ensures that the behavior and performance of the software corresponds with requirements of the design project. At the system level, will be responsible for preparing, developing, executing and documenting hardware and software integration and system testing within a project or product maintenance tasks.

He/she will xamine and judge whether an item fits the user needs, especially in regards of safety, quality and operating environment, as well as to ensure that the developed solution meets the requirements and is able to operate in the environment needed.

The Software Tester Technical Lead can fulfil the following roles out of TCMS Engineering Standard Roles:

- Software Tester

- Software Verifier

-Validator and Software Validator

Your Tasks

- Develop a validation plan and specify the essential tasks and activities for validation and agree this plan with the assessor

- Carry out audits, inspections or reviews on the overall project (as instantiations of the generic development process) as appropriate in various phases of development

- Review the requirements against the intended environment/use and develop a system understanding of the system within the intended environment of application

- Evaluate the conformity of the process and the outcome against the requirements of the EN standards and related IEEE standards and other markets

- Review the outcome against the system requirements to ensure that that all of these are fulfilled

- Review that developed solutions are traceable to the requirements Review and classify all deviations in terms of risk (impact), records and submit to the body responsible for change management and decision making

- Evaluate final test results and give a recommendation on the suitability of the outcome for intended use and indicate any application constraints as appropriate

- Give agreement/disagreement for the release of the software


- Bachelor or Master degree in Science or Engineering, Computer Science, Information technology, Electronics or any other relevant discipline

- Strong experience in a similar role

- Specific knowledge in the areas of product safety and Validation (EN 50128, EN50657, SIRF, CSM, EN61508, TSIs, etc.), accreditation bodies and authorization process of railway vehicles

- Vehicle/TCMS functions knowledge and deep knowledge of SW testing

- Knowledge of European and worldwide safety assurance, accreditation and authorization processes and infrastructure including relevant standards

- Experience in project work / project management in an international environment

- Excellent leadership skills

- High degree of flexibility to achieve business targets.

- Excellent problem solving know how and strategic behaviour skills are essential.

- Conflict management skills
