Responsibilities

Leadership & Development:

• To lead & manage a team of Training and Competence Assessors ensuring accountability and quality delivery at all Northern sites and UK wide for Depot Operations and ISST’s
• Ability to advise, persuade and influence Services Leaders (UK) on matters relating to compliance of the governance of safety critical training and competence management
• Develop the competence and capability of the training team to deliver blended learning solutions across the Services business
• To develop skills as a leader to continuously develop the T&C team and develop own capability to offer a blend of learning solutions
• Work collaboratively with Training Support Team to continuously offer the best learning solutions to sites

Competence and Technical Management across the UK sites:

• Ensure appropriate staffing and resourcing at all sites to maintain daily T&C operations for Traction and Rolling Stock, Operational Driver Competences, Depot Operations Controller, ISST’s
• Work closely with all locations to understand the competence and technical training requirements
• Create a clear delivery plan by site using a blend of learning solutions to meet the needs of the location
• Incorporate T&C standards and processes to ensure CMS (Competency Management Systems) compliance
• In line with the operational excellence building blocks implement best in class T&C operations with standardised practices and procedures
• Develop best practice onboarding and induction processes to deliver standard capability across the operation
• Ensure link to stakeholders, e.g. Fleet Maintenance Engineering, Operational Excellence
• Challenge the current dynamic to ensure continued training effectiveness
• Work closely with mobilisation teams to ensure the smooth handover of new projects to incorporate them into day to day operations

HSE, Governance and Compliance:

• Work closely with Training Team Managers and Training Support Team to deliver best in class solutions to support ‘working safely and competently’ at all locations following HSE and CMS procedures
• Oversee the implementation and accurate evaluation of all T&C supporting systems EDS, Moodle, LMS, T&C Database
• Oversee the continued day to day compliance and governance of T&C at all locations

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience as a Competency Manager with people management responsibility
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of rail regulations and competency management systems (CMS) that support safety critical competence requirements related to Depot Operations and maintenance including operations control and depot driving
• Occupationally competent operations and rail assessor
• Qualified Verifier
• Experienced Trainer with knowledge of blended learning design and delivery and learning theory and transference to the workplace
• HSE ambassador demonstrated behaviour in driving a preventative culture
• Language skills: Advanced/business fluent level of English
• Mobility: the main work location will be Derby with 1 or 2 days per week at either London or Crofton sites.
