We are currently looking to recruit a Commercial Engineer for our site in Hennigsdorf, Germany.


The Commercial Engineer is responsible to lead the Product Family in the analysis of the technical specifications and provide short, mid and long-term strategy to respond to specifications while commercially leveraging our products. He or she is the Commercial Lead for technical matters in the product family. The Commercial Engineer is also responsible to ensure that the proper technical requirement baseline is created in every project followed by its product family and to act as a gate keeper to ensure that no changes to this baseline is occurring without having a proper commercial view taken into consideration.

The Commercial Engineer provides the knowledge and tools to follow the technical contractual gaps and monitors their application in the Bids and projects up to Gate 9. He or she ensures that Bombardier Transportation’s rights resulting from changes to Technical Specification are properly captured and exercised.

The Commercial Engineer supports and provides guidance to Procurement concerning contractual issues of a technical origin involving Purchase Contracts

The Commercial Engineer is responsible to proactively identify value adding opportunities for both BT and the customer to improve the project’s scope, delivery schedule, revenues and margin through effective management of the Technical Specification and the implementation of a commercialization process including change management. He or she will support the strategy for variation orders and claims.

Your Responsibilities

Key focus is on establishing and managing throughout the project lifecycle a Requirement Dashboard that would focus on the top 5 Risk and Opportunities related to the Technical Specification. Provide training on RCP to all Project Core Team members enable them performing their scope of work. Make sure that requirement owners are assigned in the Project Core Team and that the Project Core Team is constantly aware of the Requirement Commercialization strategy. Ensures that lessons learned & best practices RM-RCP are captured and made available for other projects and bids.

Ensure with the Product Chief Engineer that a technical baseline is created and calibrated against Operability, Infrastructure Interfaces, Maintenance, Homologation and RAMS to ensure any changes to such baseline will be identified and will be properly associated with an action plan.

Participate in all Product Change Boards, risk and opportunity and variation order meetings to ensure early identification of commercial risks and opportunities arising out requirements Gaps. Develop mitigation actions to manage commercial risks and develop enhancement actions to deliver opportunities.

In co-operation with Contracts & Legal and C, support and provide guidance to Procurement concerning the placement of all major Purchase Contracts to ensure back-to-back coverage with customer contract is achieved or proper mitigation actions are put in place for any remaining gaps.

Support the establishment and implementation, with the Project Commercial Manager of the technical aspects of the Project Commercial strategy towards the Customer, Consortium Partner/Joint Venture partners and Key Suppliers.

- Preferably a degree in either Engineering with a Legal or Contractual education or a Law degree with proven record of technical skills or a combination these.
- Or a tertiary qualification and commercial / operational experience. Post graduate commercial qualifications are well regarded
- Typically minimum 8 years of experience in relevant role
- Working experience either in Contracts & Legal, Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Bids or Sales
- Has experience in working in a multicultural environment (e.g. working in international teams, international projects etc)
- Has worked on several projects and/ or bids
- Proven track record in commercial management in a complex technical issues, ideally in similar business areas (e.g. railways, construction, oil & gas, technology, energy)
