About the role:

Join us as a Project PdM TALENT (M/W/D) and you’ll be looking at a career-defining role based in Hennigsdorf, Germany.

Reporting to PF PdM TALENT and working directly within the specific Product Development core team (PDCT), the Project Product Development Manager (PdM), has direct responsibility for ensuring the delivery of the specific product development for a group of RoQ and ROS building blocks and activities inside a Project is clearly translated into an associated set of cross functional activities, that are in turn, delivered in accordance with the requisite quality, time and cost parameters (QTC) from BID to NTP until Gate 7. All activities are based on and are in line with the Product Family Requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

Management of Requirements inside Product Family

• Ensure for product development activities that they are in line with the product concept requirements and the project-specific requirements. Manage them, capture all product decisions and requirements, so that the direction of the Product Family is understood.

• Translate the Product Family requirements into product development deliverables, articulating the associated data necessary to define schedule of activities, resources and budgets requirements.

• Ensure the Product Family optimizes reuse opportunities in accordance with the Product Family roadmap and convergence in conjunction with the Product Family Manager & Product Family Chief Engineer, develop the vision for the Product Family.

Management of Product Development activity through the life cycle from design through to serial production

• Lead the identification & development of product development work activities, their translation into work packages for multiple phases, including bids, projects, R&D and pre - NTP phases, having regard at all times to all requisite safety and legal standards, alongside contractual requirements for the specific application.

• Ensure any requests to deviate from agreed concepts at a project level do not negatively impact the integrity of the defined principles from a Product Book and QTC perspective.

• For all product development activities, ensure that all bids and projects are in line with the appropriate gates and that any deviations identified at gates are closed in a timely manner so as not to impact the overall schedule; simultaneously ensure that quality is not compromised

• Rigorously ensure that "stop, fix, escalate" activities are adhered to at no go decisions.

• Identify and secure all necessary resources and capabilities needed to deliver the work packages according to the product development schedule for all phases.

• Implement the necessary governance to rigorously ensure that work packages are delivered as per expectations and that resolutions are implemented to address deviations from plan.

• Meticulously ensure that the critical process aspects of the product development team are routinely applied for change management, config management, management of risk, management of opportunity, management of design and for gate reviews.

• Either directly, or with delegated authority, represent the product family at the various product and project governance meetings, including PF reviews, engineering technical reviews, project reviews, applicable SMB document reviews and customer meetings as applicable.

• Operate as the first point of escalation for any deviation, measured in KPIS, for all scopes within the Product Family.

Resource Management

• Diligently ensure that all engineering activity needs for all phases (off-cycle, bids, pre-NTP, projects & initiatives) are collected and accurately represented in P6, six months in advance of the requirement.

• Hold direct responsibility for the implementation of a dynamic resource management process to enable reallocation of resources from one phase / activity to another, where this is in the best interest of the business to do so.

• Hold responsibility for escalating resource issues that cannot be managed within the product family and for securing the associated necessary resolution.

Capability Management

• With direct responsibility for the development of PdMs within the PF, work in close collaboration with the Engineering function, to build and rigorously manage all aspects of Product Family capability plan, ensuring all critical capability requirements are identified and appropriate resolutions are implemented.

• Implement the requisite governance to ensure that talent management processes are embedded, across the team, championing the diligent application of defined talent management processes.

Drive Cost Optimisation

• Implement a culture of cost management within the team, working towards a long-term vision of implementing a top down costing methodology, when the Product Family concept and processes are mature.

• Secure & prepare all requisite inputs necessary to build meaningful product cost visibility.

• Rigorously track and monitor all factors impacting product cost and deploy a system which drives a cost reduction ethos, by conscientiously managing all aspects falling directly under the scope of responsibility, as well as ensuring effective liaison with the other functions who contribute toward product cost.

• Diligently manage all Risks and Opportunities, identified through the various stages of product development, ensuring all risks are mitigated in accordance with expected parameters and that opportunities are.

Leadership

• Provide strong leadership to deliver best in class product development performance within the product family

• Set a clear vision, supported by the necessary delivery framework, to galvanise the teams in the delivery of the Product Families objectives

• Develop a high performing team in the Product Family, through effective recruitment and by implementing a strong performance review and development focus.

• Ensure a strong talent planning system is place, covering PdMs at all levels and succession planning.

• Leading by example, provide inspirational leadership to motivate and develop direct reports, creating a positive, hardworking, results oriented, can do culture at every level.

• Set exemplary leadership behaviours, by demonstrating “what good looks like” in all Bombardier defined leadership competencies and by operating a continuous improvement ethos relating to your own self development.

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with key partners across the business, with emphasis on key relationships within the Product Family Core Team, the broader PF / PdM community & product development team.

Qualifikationen

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering

• Significant and demonstrable track record of successfully operating as an EPM or PM in a Global organisation delivering complex engineering solutions in the broad capital equipment and engineering sector. Critical within this, is evidence of having successfully programme managed the associated engineering activities, requiring the integration of complex multi-discipline engineering solutions, into one product. This must include integration of complex hardware and complex software solutions.

• Experience in interpreting project (or concept) contractual requirements - which include the operating / environment conditions for the product to operate as required - and having then translated these requirements into engineering deliverables, meeting QTC expectations.

• In working as part of a project core team, will be able to evidence having pragmatically influenced the translation of a Product Vision into an engineering deliverable, having regard to organisation capability to deliver the vision, within defined operating parameters (QTC – Quality, Time, Cost).

• Tangible experience of successfully managing the product engineering risk lifecycle, underpinned by the need to operate within defined QTC standards.

• Has been directly responsible for building and managing all aspects associated with project engineering costs, from creating budgets, forecasts and delivering actual within budget.

• Having worked as part of a Project Core Team, where the project success required collaborating with a multifunctional team. In doing so, will be able to articulate the key success factors in ensuring the project was delivered on time.

• Tangible experience of having successfully operated in an environment requiring high levels of customer intimacy and knowledge. Able to give clear examples of having successfully liaised with the customer, throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring strong customer relationship management.

• Track record of building & leading a high-performing multi-discipline engineering organisation, with a team size of at least 30 engineers and at least 5 direct reports.

• Evidence of successfully operating in an international business culture, delivering to multiple customer bases (Government and Private) utilising teams in multiple countries to deliver engineering work packages.

• Has worked as part of a multifunctional team, recognising that success stems from collaboration, whilst at the same time, understanding that each function will have its own set of objectives which may not always be aligned.

• Competence and capacity management.

• German and English fluent (Italian or other languages are considered an advantage).
