About the role:

The Project Commercial Manager is responsible to lead the Project Core Teams in the management of the commercial, contractual and claim aspects of customer and supplier contracts. He/she will put a major focus on identifying technical over-/under-performances of our product compared to the contractual requirements early in the process and on developing external commercial strategies (e.g. negotiations/claims etc. vis-à-vis customers and/or suppliers) and internal mitigations.

Your responsibilities will include:

• commercial management (contract management, including risks and opportunities management, claim management) for a portfolio of several projects concerning the delivery of locomotives

• strong focus on the commercialization of risks/opportunities resulting from technical over- and under-performances (product vs. contract)

• implement processes and establish routines in the collaboration with Project Management/Engineering/Requirements Management in order to secure the early detection of technical over-/under-performances (incl. participation in Project Core Teams, risk and opportunity, change control boards and variation order meetings)

• develop commercial strategies and lead negotiations with customers/suppliers on all commercial topics affecting the projects, notably negotiations about financial consequences of contractual over-/under-performance

• create commercial awareness (leading by example + formal trainings) within Project Management and Engineering

• ensure contractual changes involving the customer and supplier are properly notified in accordance with the contract and the BT Change Management process (e.g. issuance of notification/ variation order).

• define and implement, jointly with the Project Director, the external communication management process for the projects ensuring that all communication to and from the customers is sent in accordance with the requirements of the contract(s) and BT’s guidelines and directives.

• lead the management of claims in accordance with the Claim Management process by devising effective claim preparation and negotiation strategies.

Qualifications

• University degree in Engineering or Business or a combination of these.

• Post graduate commercial qualifications are well regarded.

• Typically minimum 3 - 5 years of experience in relevant role and be able to demonstrate the achieved results

• Working experience either in Engineering, Requirements Management, Project Management or Bids

• Proven track record in a complex business environment, ideally in similar business areas (e.g. railways, construction, machinery and plant engineering, oil & gas, energy) and ideally with a strong software aspect (software and hardware integration e.g. on vehicles, machines or other technical systems)

• A strong commercial accumen and a capability to develop commercial strategies regarding technical risks and opportunities

• Goal-orientation and drive for results

• Ability to present technical/commercial issues in an understandable format, using basic tools such as Power Point, Excel and Word

• Ability to convince others and strong negotiation skills

• English and German business fluent are mandatory for this role; additional languages are a plus

• Willingness to travel up to 20% per year in Germany and Europe
