Develop and assure engineering solutions to meet customer’s and contractual requirements
• Manage the engineering team across the project/platform to ensure all engineering projects are supported adequately
• Manage product safety and associated activity, including governance and project delivery and reporting
• Manage interface for the product/project/platform with Fleet Support Engineering (the Engineering team responsible for all engineering issues except the first level of support in Depot) ensuring that a clear scope of work with clear deliverables will be in place
• Principal interface with customer for engineering activity at project level
• Manage the engineering budget

Support the identification and delivery of reliability improvements to meet contractual reliability targets
• Use available resource to identify key reliability improvements to the fleet. Avoiding the mindset for additional and none value added maintenance and modifications
• Use the tools available and implement effective problem solving, embed problem solving approach in organisation and activity

Improve the current maintenance regime looking for opportunities to reduce costs whilst keeping the full integrity and safety of train operations
• Identifying work packages and define scope and measurement
• Work with maintenance development team to realise opportunities
• Work with Fleet Support Engineering on projects to optimise standard activity

People Management
• Build engineering organisational capability using all HR available processes, procedures and tools including: Recruitment, Performance Management, Development Plans, Talent Management, Succession Planning
• Responsible for the employee engagement and delivering action plans that make a more effective and transparent workplace


• Senior experience in relevant roles, management of maintenance and overhaul of equipment with safety critical systems, in rail or similar industries
• Successful track record influencing train specifications and design for serviceability
• Experience in business process reengineering and problem solving
• Management, Communication & Organisational skills developed through experience are expected as well

Knowledge of the business
• Knowledge of the railway industry and of its trends, with specific reference to train maintenance
• Knowledge of the UK market (train operators and competitors)
• Understanding of how sub-functions integrate the train maintenance value chain

Knowledge of processes, systems and tools
• Product safety related processes
• Plan Do Check Act (PDCA)
• Maintenance Management System
• Maximo Asset Management software
• Automatic Vehicle Inspection Systems
• Asset Information Management System (AIMS)
• Problem solving techniques
• Financial governance
• Change management processes, Risk and opportunity processes

Language skills
• Advanced/business fluent level of English

• Frequent travel across the UK (mostly within London, but also possibly to Derby sometimes)
