About the role:

Purpose of the job:

The Project Director acts within the boundaries of the contract with the full power of the Value Chain Entity President’s authority to deliver the object of the contract to the customer and to deliver the targeted margin to Bombardier. To this effect, the Project Director leads the Project Core Team in the successful completion of their assigned tasks within schedule, allocated budgets and scope to the required quality. The Project Director will lead the project and cope with the unique challenge of continually focusing on a pro-active management that the functions keep their delegated budgets, meet their schedules and deliver on their obligation. The Project Director shall lead the team with the view of the full project including areas outside own Value Chain Entity and the overall impact on BT performance.

The Project Director is responsible to apply the key Project Management Processes and the applicable tools for the implementation, and is accountable for the strict and efficient application thereof.

The Project Director has to ensure that all Project Core Team members have sufficient financial and reporting governance and to ensure all risks and opportunities are properly addressed and mitigated.

Key responsibilities:

Functional duties to the Project Core Team

- Responsible for the WBS, Detailed Project Schedule, JDDP, Customer Interface, Project Risk, Opportunity and Improvement Management, Project Launch (including the Orange Book), Change Management and Contractual Obligation Management, Budget allocation and monitoring, Project Reporting internally both status and financial performance
- Responsible to be primary contact to divisional Project Management Office. In larger projects, this could be delegated as a separate role.

Leadership duties within the Project Core Team

- Has the authority and the obligation to review the effort of the Project Core Team members and to give directives related to the project execution, as such will be involved in the PMP objective setting process for all Project Core Team members
- Defines and secures the support of the business partners and extended project team
- Responsible for management of all communication with the Customer
- Lead the Project Core Team effort to meet periodic financial targets
- Responsible for adapting his/her leadership and motivational skills to the project, the team or individual's capabilities and knowledge, the time and tools available and the results desired. (S)he will develop “must do” strategies to increase team effectiveness

Specific responsibilities to other Project Core Team roles

- Adapts the allocation of work packages between the roles and the day-to-day delegation of special tasks to the Project Core Team members in order to optimize the total project
- Responsible for the communication to the Product Development Manager as well as potential Project Managers of collaborating Value Chain Entities

As a Portfolio Manager

- Manage all contracts under responsibility of the portfolio in order to deliver scope as contracted and within the budget while seeking for optimum margin and customer satisfaction
- Engage with customers with regards to project execution topics when required
- Ensure that correct networks are established to other functions to support rapid resolution of any execution issues
- Drive PM development plan ensuring required competence and skills of Project Managers are adequate and that Project Managers are accountable
- Implementing the project management strategy, capability and culture within the portfolio and supporting the increase of its effectiveness
- Promotes and exchanges best practices regarding Project Management within the portfolio and with other BU/Value Chain Entity
- Drive deployment and implementation of common standardized processes, tools and techniques for Project Management in order to positively impact the project performance and increase visibility, ensuring full understanding and adequate realization
- Ensure efficient level of governance is in place to have transparency across the portfolio
- Set priorities in case of resource conflicts between projects in the portfolio
- Support projects in resolving execution issues within the right escalation process



Any Graduate / Masters / relevant degree

Relevant experience required

Minimum 20 years of experience post graduate

Minimum 5-7 years of leadership experience

Mandatory requirement in Railway Signalling Projects

Proven leadership performance (i.e. PMP, 360° feedback) & international working experience

Has run several projects of strategic importance
