About the role:

The Project Commercial Manager is responsible to lead the Project Core Team in commercial and contractual aspects of the project, to provide the knowledge and tools to follow the contractual obligations and to monitor their application in the team. He or she ensures that the company’s rights are properly captured and exercised. He or she reports to the Commercial Director of the project.

The role holder supports and provides guidance to Procurement concerning contractual issues involving Purchase Contracts and leads the preparation of major claims involving suppliers.

He/she is responsible to proactively identify value adding opportunities for both BT and the customer in order to improve the project through effective management of the contract and the implementation of a variation order and change management processes. He or she prepares the strategy for variation orders and claims and co-leads negotiations.

Key responsibilities:

Together with the Project Director and the Commercial Director defines and executes the project commercial strategy;

Provides training on the necessary commercial and contractual knowledge and skills to all Project Core Team members and makes sure that obligation owners are assigned in the Project Core Team and that the Project Core Team is constantly aware of the obligations’ due dates;

Ensures that lessons learned & best practices in commercial management are captured and made available for other projects and bids;

Takes ownership of all commercial and contractual risks and opportunities;

Develops mitigation actions to manage commercial risks and enhancement actions to deliver opportunities;

Ensures contractual changes involving the customer, consortium partners, and suppliers are properly notified in accordance with the contract and the BT Change Management process;

Leads the management of Claims by devising effecting Claim preparation and negotiation strategies;

Supports the ongoing commercial management of the Purchase Contracts once placed;

Defines and implements the external communication management process for the project ensuring that all communication to and from the customer is sent in accordance with the requirements of the contract(s) and BT’s guidelines and directives.

Qualifications

-
Master’s degree in engineering, Quantity Surveying and/or Business - post graduate commercial qualifications are well regarded;

Typically 5-7 years of experience in a relevant role;

Commercial and contracts experience - proven track record in contract and commercial management

Established professional with working experience on projects, ideally in similar business areas;

Working experience either in Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Contracts, Bids or Sales;

Soft skills: negotiation skills, making decisions, drive for results;

Languages: English - proficient/advanced, German – proficient/advanced, French advanced is an asset.
