Purpose of the Role:

To lead, manage and control all engineering-related activities across QNGR & Legacy Products in Australia to deliver on requirements, budget, resource planning/ramp up and schedule. To ensure “lessons learned” and best practices are applied on projects and transferred to new projects. Main engineering interface with the customer and internal cross-functional leads.

Key responsibilities:

Program Management

- To clearly articulate development work activities into work packages for multiple phases, including off-cycle product development, bids and pre-NTP scopes, whilst ensuring associated development activity remains in accordance with the PF roadmap

- Rigorous QTC focus on all associated activities for QNGR & Legacy Product development occurring in project - making sure deliverables are on time, on cost, to the right quality and assignment of consistent KPIs to monitor progress on all projects

- Ensure the Design Gate Review process is followed by each project in alignment with the project schedule and Project Gates.

- Ensure accountability, process governance and KPI compliance for all PDM direct reports.

Stakeholder Management

- Establish and maintain interfaces with other Engineering departments & with relevant functions (Project Management, Services, Procurement, Operations, Sales, Bids).

- Key interface / single point of contact to the customer for QNGR & Legacy Products in Australia

Financial Management

- Monitor, control and report monthly all product related financial aspects of the Legacy Product projects consistent with the contract requirements and established project management procedures to attain established goals.

- Operating with a continuous improvement ethos, driving optimization of reuse alongside rigorously identifying and delivering cost reduction opportunities

Resource Management (capacity, capability / competency)

- The creation and management of a resource requirements plan, ensuring availability of all skills as required in the various phases (incorporating robust planning and dynamic resource management)

- Ensuring that relevant skills are maintained and developed by the Engineering team. People development and performance management.

- Oversight, mentoring and support for all PDM’s

- Undertake and maintain capacity planning, including the Global Capacity Planning Program (GCPP) database

Qualifications

Qualifications & Functional Knowledge

- Engineering studies (Master, Diploma, or similar) or equivalent work experienced based on technical (mechanical or electrical) education.

- Minimum 15 years of experience post graduate in the railway or related industry

- Minimum 8 year of leadership experience

- Commercial awareness with experience in planning and monitoring budgets and resources in projects

- Excellent communication, presentation and negotiating skills

- Sound knowledge of project engineering regarding project planning and scheduling, resource planning, milestone management, risk mitigation, project reporting.

- Knowledge of rolling stock engineering and production would be beneficial.

- Understanding of the Australian customer domain.
