Purpose of the Role:

The incumbent of this position will be responsible for effective planning, delivery and administration of rail safety, operational and technical training. They are required to support the respective manufacturing and maintenance projects and ensure training delivered to the workforce is in line with company policies and procedures ensuring safety awareness and manufacturing is performed at a very high standard.

Primary Responsibilities:

Training Delivery, Development and Coordination

- Plan, develop and administer rail safety, operational and technical training requirements in a variety of areas as appropriate (e.g. Product Overview Training, Power Tools, etc.)
- Issue course attendance certificates as required.
- Liaise with external specialist training providers and maintain a register of skills and contact details.
- Arrange external training both on and off site to meet project requirements.
- Ensure that the training and assessment materials meets AQF standards and are appropriately quality controlled
- Conduct Training Needs Analysis to determine gaps in current skills and knowledge and provide advice on future directions, professional development strategies and appropriate initiatives for training and development.
- Collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop training plans based on needs identified in the organisations strategic plans, skills audits and performance development plans, review the implementation and evaluate the outcomes.

Continuous Improvement

- Develop, facilitate and review training procedures, processes, benchmarks and key performance indicators ensuring alignment with BT strategic direction.
- Assess review and evaluate tools, processes and training material and report recommendations or inconsistencies.
- Ensure quality and consistency across the full scope of learning activities
- Provide recommendations for changes in training providers or programs, i.e. cost, location, course content, etc.

Record Management

- Maintain appropriate information systems to enable the effective recording, processing and reporting of staff training and information which align to business, operational and strategic planning.
- Ensure all training (including Rail Safety Medicals) is registered in training register / database, including recorded expiry dates and renewal triggers.
- Participate in regular audits of the record management system to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Ensure all employee training records are kept up to date and are secure (both hard copy and electronic versions).
- Advise Management immediately of any suspected breaches to the privacy or security of employee records.

Stakeholder Management

- Proactively contribute to L&D objectives through training delivery and development in order to provide a comprehensive and continual service to internal and external clients.
- Provide on-site support to Managers/Supervisors in regards to training requirements or requests for information.
- Assist Managers/Supervisors with managing training risks within the business.
Coordinate with external training providers to book and facilitate training requirements.

Employee Medical Assessments

- Facilitate the booking of both pre-employment and renewal medical assessments in accordance with the Rail Safety Act and Company Policies and Procedures.
- Notify Management of any issues associated with the booking of medicals, in particular where renewal dates will not be met.
- Notify Human Resources upon completion of pre-employment medical assessments as part of the new starter onboarding process.


- Preparation of reports and training statistics as required.
- Managing the training component of the visual boards across the required sites.
- Managing the presentation and printing of training materials.
- Prepare updates for on-site meetings including but not limited to:
- Toolboxes
- Communications Meeting
- Team Meetings


- Identifying and managing hazards and communicating them to team members.
- Perform Job Safety Analysis on work related tasks.
- Reporting incidents and accidents.
- Managing contractors as partners.
- Ensuring use of appropriate tools, equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to do the job required.
- Support and contribute to a positive Safety Culture.
- Work in accordance with BT Health, Safety & Environmental Policy and any other relevant Company Policies and Procedures.
- Additional Tasks
- Carrying out any other duties that can reasonably be requested from time to time within the framework of this position, and the skills, training and experience of the incumbent.
- Participating in project work as well as routine work.
- Assist with the development of the training budget and monitor expenditure.
- Additional responsibilities as directed by Manager.


Key Requirements:

- Tertiary Qualification in Education/Training or minimum Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Quality Auditing Certification advantageous.
- Understanding of the Rail Safety Act & Regulations.
- Relevant experience required (i.e. directly linked to the requirements of the position/role)
- A minimum of 4 years proven work experience within a training role or equivalent.
- Experience working within rail, transportation, infrastructure or similar environment.
- Experience working with or within a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
- Specialized or cross-functional knowledge / relevant experience required by the position/role
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to plan, develop and deliver training to a very high standard.
- Strong organisation and time management skills.
- Ability to work with technical information and translate as required.
- Capacity to liaise with all levels of management and staff.
- Demonstrated ability, willingness and commitment to be multi-skilled and up-skilled.
- Strong report writing skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Intermediate skills in MS Office Programs, including MS Office and Excel.
- Hold a Victorian driver’s licence.
