Join us as a Electrical Wiring Engineer for our main site in Derby for our Chief Operating Office division.

The Chief Operating Office organisation specialises in the design of bogies, bodyshell, traction and braking systems, underframe equipment structural approval, service support, warranty support and electrical equipment – non-communicational systems.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Reviews technical specifications, estimates costs and schedules, plans his/her own work of others, initiates and leads engineering design programs for Electrical wiring.

Designs the Installation requirements for the vehicle Electrical systems and interfaces, gathers and analyses complex technical data, solves vehicle level installation design problems, performs system trade-off and coordination studies, creates novel design alternatives, develops reliability, safety and maintainability approaches, decides on optimum design approach.

Key Design Responsibilities

Draughting of Schematics, wiring reports, Bills of Materials, Harness Diagrams, Formboards/stick diagrams, Elda database.

Tests, demonstrates and documents vehicle level installation designs, develops test procedures, leads design reviews internally and with customers, delegates works to subordinates.

Provides technical expertise in support of Customer Service, Program Management, Manufacturing, Field Start-up and Operations

Generates engineering reports, financial reports, status reports, technical proposals, patent disclosures and technical papers for publication.

Performs cost analyses, evaluates and recommend components, devices and sub-contractors.

Maintains Design Manuals for designated cognizant topics


- Degree and/or Chartered status essential, Master’s Degree desirable.
Technical domain experience essential, System Integration & Installation experience essential, System Architectural understanding essential.

Rail experience desirable.

Significant experience and hands on delivery of the design, analysis, development, testing and delivery of engineering solutions that solve complex requirements.

Provide cost and schedule estimates on complicated engineering programs.

Provide technical expertise in Electrical Installation.

Be able to demonstrate the ability to use this technical knowledge in the support of other departments (engineering, production, procurement, projects) and the development of less experienced engineering personnel
