Manager, Avionics Center Of Expertise and Research and Technology, Engineering
As part of the Bombardier Engineering Functional Team and reporting to the Senior Director of Avionics, Engineering, you will be responsible for managing, overseeing, and leading the COE Statement of Work and R&T activities within avionics department.
You will work in close collaboration with the Avionics Fellow, Knowledge Domain Owner / Focal, Avionics Senior Technical Experts and other Avionics Managers (EIS Platforms and R&D / New Avionics Function),
You will work in close collaboration with Cross-Platform Project Manager, Platform Head of Aircraft Design, Engineering support to Production, Bombardier Flight Test Center, R&T Engineering Director and other stakeholders outside of engineering e.g. Program Office, Product Planning, Procurement, …
What are your contributions to the team?
- Responsible of all the avionics functional activities and reporting within the avionics department (e.g. Knowledge Domains, Critical Skills Review, Critical Knowledge Level, Recruitment, conferences, etc …)
- Specifically lead and execute the avionics functional projects allocated to the COE as part of the COE Statement Of Work (SOW).
- Review, support and report on the COE SOW projects allocated to the other avionics managers and their teams.
- Actively promote efficient and common avionics standards, processes, methods and initiatives (where applicable) across the different platforms.
- Responsible to develop and maintain the COE SOW for the avionics department e.g. Develop new standards, processes and methods to strengthen the Avionics Department Development, establish budget and resource allocation for COE, ….
- Work closely with Avionics MGRs to identify new COE initiatives / improvements as well as activities link to KD/CKL and Recruitment
- Responsible of leveraging the AVIO experts cross the avionics department and develop functional strategic activities to be supported by these specialists and avionics fellow e.g. R&T support, conference coverage, Review future rule making, ,…
- Responsible of supporting activities linked to CORE-DAD / DAO (succession, etc …)
- Responsible of maintaining the current EIS platform avionics roadmaps
- Responsible and lead the avionics R&T projects portfolio
- Have a broader role in following industry trends in term of future avionics and ensure these trends / exploration opportunities are captured within the avionics R&T projects portfolio in order to work on future avionics technical strategies.
- Support and participate to various Avionics Supplier/Bombardier meetings through the R&T umbrella e.g. Tech Days, Supplier visits, ….
- Manage and collaborate with BA avionics stakeholders to ensure good strategic alignment with the business objectives
- Manage and develop the COE team and avionics specialists.
How to thrive in this role? Skills, knowledge & experience:
- You hold a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in engineering or demonstrate equivalence.
- You have 10 to 15 years of pertinent experience in aircraft engineering with multidisciplinary and technically complex integration in the Aerospace industry.
- You have held leadership positions for at least five (5) years of supervisory experience.
- You are a team player, promoting a collaborative approach to achieve the company’s objectives.
- You have knowledge of Avionics aircraft systems.
- Ability to derive and develop clear and meaningful action plans from limited initial information or data.
- You are a self-starter/self-motivated with strong organizational & time management skills to support multiple tasks with little direct oversight.
- Strong leadership and situational judgement.
- You have strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and build consensus without formal authority.
- Strong communication and listening skills to ensure clear consistent and timely information sharing within the teams and across functional areas.
- You must have good written and oral communication skills in English. Knowledge of French is an asset
