In your role, you will be reporting to the EMC section chief.  Professional – Engineering – Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is a multifaceted position within the Aircraft Design and Development department.  At Bombardier, the Electromagnetic Compatibility team is responsible to ensure the safety of our aircraft to internal and external electromagnetic threats including Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), High-Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF), Low-Intensity Radiated Fields (LIRF), Lightning, and Electrostatic Charge.  We ensure our aircraft meet all the associated regulatory requirements.  Our team supports all Bombardier products.
 

In your role, you will

  • Assist in analyzing new and/or modified system or structure designs to assess technical impacts.  Review the associated technical documents such as test plans, test procedures, analysis reports and test reports. Support the senior members of the team to verify compliance with certification regulations.
  • Help drive the resolution of electromagnetic related issues to support EMC certification and sustaining activities including production line and in-service support.
  • Have knowledge of relevant industry standards (RTCA/DO-160, SAE ARP) and be familiar with airworthiness (TCCA, FAA, EASA) Regulations and Advisory Materials pertaining to EMI, HIRF, Lightning and Electrostatic Discharge. 
  • Under the guidance of senior EMC team members, execute engineering assignments related to EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning and Electrostatics including performing detailed analyses using similarity assessments, simulation, and/or analytical methods. 
  • Support at the aircraft and system level for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMI)/High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF)/Lightning Strike/ Electrostatic Discharge technical requirements. 
  • Assist in defining the scope of work for EMC effort of technical/engineering projects and estimating the time required. Execute tasks according to priorities.
  • Assist in creation and updating of aircraft, system, and structure level technical requirements.
  • Assist in execution of EMC tasks to support collaborative R&D teams (university, industry).
  • Apply improvements to Bombardier Aerospace processes and best practices.
  • Support and witness EMC tests in Canada, United States and Europe as needed.
  • Prepare aircraft level EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning and Electrostatic Discharge test procedures and test reports.
  • Prepare Certification Design Compliance Reports.
     

As our ideal candidate

  • You hold a degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering or in Engineering Sciences. Masters degree is preferred.
  • You have a minimum of 2 years and up to 8  years of related experience that may include work and/or academic experience. Experience in/knowledge of Electromagnetic Combability is an asset.
  • You have some working experience with systems or structures EMC qualification/certification. Aerospace experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards (RTCA/DO-160, SAE ARPs) and be familiar with airworthiness (TCCA, FAA, EASA) Regulations and Advisory Materials pertaining to EMI, HIRF, LIRF, Lightning, and Electrostatics is an asset. 
  • You are comfortable working in a team, and can interact with other functional areas, including airworthiness, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines to achieve common goals.
  • You have good oral and technical writing skills. French is an asset.
  • You can work independently and demonstrate initiative to achieve the goals established for you.
  • You are motivated to learn and not afraid to work on multiple projects.
  • Ability to program using MATLAB scripts or VBA is an asset.  Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools is an asset.
     

Position Details

  • Located at either Bombardier Toronto, Ontario (Pearson Airport), or Bombardier Montréal, Québec (Dorval Airport). 

  • The position would be a mix of hybrid or remote from home.
