The Advanced Design group leads the conceptual studies and preliminary design of all new products at Bombardier. The team is also heavily involved in research projects covering various new technologies that will shape the future of aerospace

What are your contributions to the team?

Technical Leadership

  • Influence the Advanced Design department mid and long-term vision, strategy and objectives.
  • Act as key subject matter expert in Aircraft Configuration and/or Conceptual Design activities.
  • Contribute to the identification of skills gaps in the Advanced Design department.
  • Develop a network of contacts throughout the company and the industry.
  • Support knowledge transfer and mentoring of other specialists.
  • Provide recommendations for promotions to Engineering Specialist and Senior Engineering Specialist Positions.
  • Propose the implementation of technical innovations based on knowledge of industry trends.
  • Lead and support university collaborative initiatives for Aircraft Configuration and/or Conceptual Design which can be leveraged for strategic technologies, innovations, F-projects and T-projects.
  • Recommend new cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Lead technical decision making and influence stakeholders of various disciplines.
  • Lead and coordinate the A/C level requirement and design solution development. Includes coordinating with other functions to ensure completeness and cohesiveness.
  • Provide technical approval of design solutions.
  • Improve the A/C level development process for Aircraft Configuration by leveraging best practices and Bombardier Engineering System.

 

Technical Competency

 

  • Provide technical process oversight and ensure adherence to TRL, maturity & exit gate criteria.
  • Validate that technical processes & Knowledge Standards meet Best Practices.
  • Mentor engineers from his/her technical discipline.
  • Recommend development action of Senior Engineering Specialists.
  • Mentor successors.
  • Research technical developments in the industry to remain aware of innovations that may affect and improve current system performance.
  • Help maintain competitive landscape of technologies and performance of non-Bombardier products.
  • Perform preliminary business cases and statements of work for technical studies.
  • Identify and lead aircraft level trade studies.
  • Lead aircraft studies having multi-disciplinary inputs.
  • Support problem solving in Advanced Design across product lines.

 

How to thrive in this role?

 

  • You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering.
  • You have 20 years or more of relevant experience in aircraft design.
  • You have experience on at least 1 or more development program in the initial pre-launch phases.
  • You have solid knowledge and experience in aircraft sizing/conceptual design as well as a good knowledge in aerodynamics, performance or stability & control.
  • You have knowledge and experience with unconventional aircraft configurations.
  • You have experience in Python coding.
  • You are open-minded, curious, rigorous and methodical.
  • You can work autonomously, take initiative and demonstrate entrepreneurship.
  • You strive for harmonious cohesive teamwork and support knowledge sharing amongst team members.
  • You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You approach problem solving with a holistic view.
  • You have strong communication skills and can easily tailor your communication to suit the audience.
