How to thrive in this role?
- You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a closely related discipline. Formal education or demonstrated experience in Systems Engineering or Mission Engineering is a strong asset.
- You are eligible for Canadian Controlled Goods security clearance.
- You have 10+ years of experience in aircraft or complex system development, including mission analysis, Concept of Operations (CONOPS) development, conceptual design, architecture definition, and requirements-based verification. You have strong working knowledge of ARP4754 and ARP4761 and their application in mission- and simulation-driven development.
- You have proven experience in developing, analyzing, and refining CONOPS, translating operational needs, use cases, and constraints into mission scenarios, system behaviors, and architectural drivers.
- You have strong expertise in mission design and simulation, including the development and use of high-fidelity, multi-domain simulation environments to evaluate mission performance, operational robustness, and technology readiness across representative operational scenarios.
- You have hands-on experience with mission and system-level simulation tools (e.g., Systems Tool Kit (STK) or equivalent), including scenario definition, trajectory analysis, sensor coverage assessment, and performance trade studies.
- You have experience developing or integrating Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) models and algorithms within closed-loop mission- and system-level simulation frameworks.
- You possess experience in sensor modeling and sensor effectiveness analysis, including sensing physics, coverage, accuracy, latency, detection and tracking performance, and assessing how sensing limitations impact mission outcomes, autonomy behaviors, and CONOPS feasibility.
- You are familiar with software development, verification, and certification processes (e.g., DO-178), particularly as they apply to simulation tools, analytical models, and model credibility.
- You demonstrate strong proficiency in requirements management tools and processes, with the ability to trace CONOPS and mission objectives to system, functional, and performance requirements and verify them through simulation, analysis, and trade studies.
- You apply strong systems thinking and system-of-systems perspectives to structure complex, multidisciplinary problems spanning missions, platforms, sensors, autonomy, and human-machine interaction.
- You exhibit curiosity and initiative in exploring emerging mission concepts, operational scenarios, autonomy levels, sensing architectures, and UAV technologies to inform future CONOPS, mission architectures, and platform evolution.
- Experience in the defense sector—including military aviation, UAV operations, ISR missions, or operating in constrained or contested environments—is considered a strong asset.
- You are motivated by long-term innovation and concept maturation, and energized by shaping future aerospace capabilities through mission-driven, scenario-based, and simulation-supported decision-making.
- You communicate clearly and effectively, translating CONOPS definitions, mission assumptions, simulation results, trade-offs, and risks into actionable insights for engineering teams, leadership, and program stakeholders.
