Project Commercial Manager (Contract Management)

Purpose of the job

This position is a Project Core Team (PCT) member having
Lead responsibility for Commercial Management activities at project delivery
level. Projects will primarily be for
the design and supply of rail control and signaling systems and wayside

Key responsibilities

1.Profitability –Ensure we manage our project contracts with
maximum commercial effectiveness, mitigating risks, maximizing opportunities;
and preparing and defending claims through dispute resolution forum as required
with follow-through to receipt of payment or other resolution. Mange Document
and Administration control oversight for each Project Core Team (PCT) function.

2.Support Project Delivery Director in the management of all
commercial and contractual issues related to Customer Contract.

3.Risk and Opportunity Management –Develop, support and
measure Value Added Planning aimed at improving each of the Project’s Gross
Margin. Develop same R&O management rigor in overall responsibilities.
Changes managed and BT’s margin projected or enhanced.

4.Support the utilization and embedding of proper commercial
management systems at Project level in accordance with the company’s directives
and procedures.

5.Support Procurement function in relation to subcontractor
contracts through provision of advice and support in negotiations or matters of
escalation or claim. Coordinate directly with Procurement to ensure alignment
of the project’s needs. Attend subcontractors reviews, progress claims and
change control. Support where necessary for best commercial outcome for the

6.Quality-Time-Cost (QTC) – Provide commercial management
aimed at achieving a high degree of quality to the customer, on time, and
within costs.

7.Leadership – Create a challenging and motivating work
environment by communicating and supporting Bombardier policies, Core Values,
Code of Ethics and Corporate Identity.
Be a supportive and integral part of the PCT.


•Degree in law, engineering, business and / or contract
management (eg. Quantity Surveying).

•5 to 8 years in contract management, ideally in a role as a
Contracts Manager working in a

project management focused environment or a minimum
2 years legal experience will be considered as a substitute for project
management experience.

•Prior relevant work package experience with delivery of
rail signalling systems is desirable

•Relevant rail industry experience required

•QS or PQS background

•Commercial and Contract works experience

•Project Management

•Change Management

•Risk & opportunity Management

•Local Code/Law/Regulation

•High level problem solving skills required

•Ability to cut thorough large contracts and advise the PCT

•Costing variations that are favourable to BT

•Ability to communicate at many levels within a project

•Working knowledge of planning & scheduling criteria and
management skills.

•Ability to work in a team environment and interface.

•Ability to make decision and take ownership when necessary

•Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving

•Skill on all systems used in Railway projects including
Rollingstock. Capable of looking on global

picture (integrated tests).

•Ability to cope with multiple project demands

•Fluency in English would be essential for the job

•Strong writing skills and good understanding of financial
management at project level.

•Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

•Good verbal communication skills.
