Advanced Aerodynamics Intern – Aerodynamic Shape Optimization
Advanced Aerodynamics design and develop high-quality aircraft aerodynamic configurations and provide aerodynamic support to all functions involved in the design, development, certification and support of Bombardier aircraft.
During your internship, you can contribute by:
- Participate in the aerodynamic design and analysis of various aircraft configurations, with a focus on external aerodynamics
- Investigate Aerodynamic Shape Optimization (ASO) and steady-state Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) algorithms in conjunction with High Performance Computing (HPC) techniques
- Expand Bombardier’s in-house ASO and CFD capabilities, including introducing new methods to reduce turnaround time and to better explore the design space
- Apply novel mesh generation and deformation techniques, CAD-free and/or CAD-centered, compatible with in-house and/or commercially available grid generation packages
During your internship, you will learn:
- State-of-the-art ASO and CFD workflows for the aerodynamic design and analysis of various aircraft configurations in a range of flight regimes
- Best practices for CFD-based aerodynamic design and tool development in an industrial cloud-based HPC environment
- How to develop aerodynamic configurations to meet design requirements, interact with external & internal customers & partners to define optimal aerodynamic configurations
What we are looking for:
- you are currently enrolled in a STEM program at a Canadian institution (Bachelors, Masters, PhD)
- you have knowledge of aerodynamic shape optimization techniques, gradient-based optimization algorithms, surrogate and reduced order modelling
- you have knowledge of spatial discretization and time integration for partial differential equations, along with iterative methods for solving systems of linear equations
- you have knowledge of mesh generation tools and CAD (preferably CATIA v5)
- you have knowledge of UNIX/LINUX and HPC best practices
- you have experience with using C/C++, Python, and shell scripting languages
- you have good communication skills in English, French is an asset
Boarding Information:
- Location: Global 7500/8000
- Duration: 8 months
- Virtual or on site
It is important to note that our internship opportunities are open to students only, not new graduates. All our interns may be required to occasionally travel outside of Canada for training/work purpose.
