Position summary
We are searching for a Manager, Labour Relations to lead this critical function for the Toronto site of 2,200 employees. The Manager, Labour Relations will be responsible for the overall management, direction, and operation of all Labour Relations for the Toronto site.
Reporting to the Site Director of Human Resources, the Manager, Labour Relations directly impacts organizational success by ensuring that labour relations strategies and collective agreements are aligned with and support the achievement of overall business goals.
There are two people reporting into the Manager, Labour Relations and the positon is based at the company’s Downsview site in Toronto
What are your contributions to the team?
· Developing and driving labour relations strategy and tactics aligned with the corporate strategies and consistent with the values of the company;
· Providing strategic advice on legislation, policy, trends, case law, collective agreement interpretation and other labour relations issues;
· Ability to act as Chief Spokesperson for collective bargaining and chairing bargaining teams; Advising on mediation and/or conciliation;
· Leading the grievance and arbitration procedures in conjunction with in-house legal;
· Leading and participating in labour management committees;
· Business continuity planning as it relates to labour relations issues;
· Preparing reports and presentations on key labour relations issues;
· Coaching and guiding Human Resources Business Partners on labour relations issues;
· Leading a team of 2 Labour Advisors;
· Interpreting and applying the Ontario Labour Relations Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, the Employment Standards Act, the Occupational Health & Safety Act and related legislation.
How to thrive in this role?
· You have a minimum of ten 10 years’ experience working in Labour Relations and/or Human Resources ideally within a manufacturing environment;
· You have a proven track record of success as a leader in Human Resources and Labour Relations and in areas including contract negotiations and interpretation, grievance administration/disputes resolution and tribunal experience;
· You have experience working in a large, unionized environment;
· You have strong leadership skills, proven ability to share skills and knowledge with others; experience in all components of human resource management;
· You have the ability to think and act strategically;
· You have the necessary skills to negotiate and influence diverse stakeholders regarding challenging organizational issues;
· You have the necessary skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with union representatives, subordinates, co-workers and with a range of other stakeholders at all levels;
· You have a proven ability to identify, understand, and meet/exceed the requirements of diverse internal and external customers; excellent problem-solving, decision-making and time management skills;
· You must be comfortable working in a very challenging environment with tight timelines.
· You hold a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Organizational Development or a related field.
