What are your contributions to the team?
- Reporting to the Engineering Manager (M&P Engineering and Laboratory Services), you will be responsible to lead a group of laboratory personnel, from a variety of technical backgrounds, chemical, mechanical, composites, failure analysis, etc.
- Manage and prioritize lab service requests from Engineering, Production sites (St. Laurent, Red Oak) Final Assembly Lines (Dorval, Pearson), LBCC, and In-Service/Customer Support.
- Ensure effective laboratory operations using Bombardier Operational Excellence (BOE) principles to maintain safety, enhance customer service, quality and meet strategic goals.
- Contribute to the fiscal aspects of the lab operation including preparing capital expenditures (test equipment) and operating budgets (manhours), evaluating adherence, and taking corrective action when required.
- Safeguard captive lab accreditations (BAERD GEN-018, NADCAP, TCA & special contracts requirements).
- Actively support synergy and foster cross-collaboration with the M&P Laboratory in Queretaro.
- Manage team resources, task assignments, incoming workload, and overall lab business prioritization.
- Manage a flexible workforce by maintaining a partnership with external firms and universities for onsite technician and intern staffing.
- Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and professional development opportunities for direct reports. This in addition to creating and managing succession plans for specialists and yourself.
- Build team capabilities (recruitment, development, retention, etc.) and manage staff performance including goal setting, defining responsibilities, and determining priorities.
- Manage special projects such as new technology, cost savings, footprint optimization and continuous process improvements.
- Interface and communicate with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., service suppliers like Maintenance, Metrology, etc.) on scope of work and scheduling requirements.
- Actively participate in management meetings and organize departmental governance.
- Provide visibility on the execution, issues, and escalations, as needed, to your immediate supervisor and upper management.
How to thrive in this role?
- You hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in an aerospace environment
- You have strong leadership skills with an ability to mobilize and foster an environment of teamwork within cross-functional teams, facilitating discussions and resolving issues to meet objectives.
- Prior experience in Materials & Processes Engineering would be a strong asset
- You have good knowledge of aircraft materials and processes such as metallics, composites, surface treatments, coatings, etc.
- You have prior experience leading projects or in a project management/coordination role.
- You are adept at solving engineering problems in a high-pressure production environment and can deal with complex issues quickly and independently.
- You must be able to work in a team environment and interact daily with Technical Experts, Professionals and Technologists
- You have intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- You are knowledgeable about typical military and/or aerospace industry standards (e.g. ASTM, ISO, MIL, FAR, and SAE)
- You are flexible and can work with minimal supervision, in a fast-paced environment with an ability to prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously to meet performance targets.
- You are pro-active, results oriented and innovative with a mindset for business improvement.
- You must show initiative, adaptability, and a strong sense of responsibility in a customer service context
- You have excellent communication skills in both English and French
